Tynia Canada, affectionately called “Chicky” by close friends and family, is one songstress on her way to stardom. Like most R&B and pop singers, she started singing at her neighborhood church. Her talent for singing and writing lyrics earned her admittance to the prestigious Music and Arts High School of New York City and eventually led her to become a finalist at Amateur Night at the world-famous Apollo Theatre.

 

It was not long after that Canada came to the attention of super-producer Teddy Riley who produced her first solo appearance at the famed New York City Latin Quarter. Since then she has been a popular favorite of local promoters. Canada is an accomplished entertainer.

Continuing forward on her journey to success, Canada was an original singer of R&B group SWV. She  went on to perform and record with some of the world’s great musical talents such as Brian McKnight, Lenny White, Donald Blackman, and  Roy Ayers singing lead vocals for Naste on RCA Records and the remix with rap artist Guru which hit the Billboard charts. Roy Ayers “Wake Up”  Album, Tynia’s lead vocals can be heard on the tracks, Sweet Talk, Baby Set Me Free, Spirit of Dodo and You’ve Got the Power. Canada has also starred in the NY Undercover television series, appeared in a movie with Al Pacino, performed at The Blue Note, Fat Cat, Birdland, Nell’s and a host of other New York City nightclubs.

Canada was an active member of Bishop Eric McDaniel’s Pentecostal Workshop Choir of the Bronx, NY who produced  gospel artist Hezekiah Walker. Her talent is unending! A multi-talented artist, Tynia’s flair for dancing can be witnessed in Grammy-nominated balladeer Oran “Juice” Jones (The Rain) video for which she choreographed.

 

This spirited, Harlemite has received raved reviews for her numerous appearances and “My word is don’t miss her!” raved by Ann Tripp  one of New York City’s top radio personalities after one of her performances. Tynia’s voice is truly music to the ears. She has appeared on several radio and television interviews. She is sure to wow you with her repertoire which includes contemporary tunes with influences from gospel, pop and opera.

A graduate of Adelphi University (Long Island, NY), Tynia holds a dual degree in Music Education and Communications. When she is not performing, she dedicates her time to her non-profit organization “Inspirational Spirit of the Phoenix, Inc.” which was mentioned in Ebony Magazine. She is also the director of the children’s ministry of “Harriet’s Children”. She is the owner of “Aunt Katherine’s Kitchen” (gourmet baked goods). “Her Sweet Potato Pound cake is addictive" says Author Dr. Barbara Reynolds.

 

Currently Tynia promotes her CD produced by Washington DC’s own Al Johnson, formerly of the Unifics and  producer of Harpist Jeff Majors.

 

Canada is indeed a rare find. She is beautiful, talented, smart and poised. A talent that will surely continue to shine for many years to come in the music industry. “I love to entertain. I feel that God has given me a great gift: the ability to sing and I am determined to use this gift.”
